A documentary we filmed for Life of Duty TV. Smokejumping was developed in the late 1930s era as a means to quickly reach fires in remote road-less areas for initial attack. The primary mission of a smoke jumper is fighting fire. Along with parachuting, smoke jumpers may be delivered to fires via helicopter, by vehicle or on foot.
We had the opportunity to meet and interview a handful of these heroes, including Jason Ramos.
The North Cascades Smokejumpers base is located about 2 hours north of Wenatchee, Washington.
Producer Rick Stewart interviewing Jason Ramos in the airplane the smokejumpers jump from. We had 3 cameras set up in this tight space.
We got to use the GoPro cameras in a couple of fun places as well.
It’s like this helicopter had a mount specifically for the GoPro.
Ryan Welch all suited up, ready for a helicopter ride to grab some ariel shots over the Cascade mountain range.
